Briege Murphy

Briege Murphy is a singer-songwriter from Co. Armagh in Ireland. Briege was reared in an area and family, steeped in traditional irish music , and for many years was a member of the Comhaltas there. As a young mother ,she began to write her own contemporary folk songs, which have been descibed as “having their roots in the tradition”. In November 2012 , she won “Best female Bard” in the world renowned “Bard of Armagh” humourous poetry competition in Ireland, with a poem she composed “just for the craic”. Briege has represented Ireland in an international song-contest in Holland ,singing one of her own songs, coming 5th out of 70 bands across Europe.She has also had one of her tracks included on an Northern Ireland Arts Council CD, and has won an award for her contribution to the culture of her country
